Earth (clay), millions of years old, buried from view, emerging in coastal erosion. Collected from the Isle of Wight cliffs. Fired at 1000ºc, most of the tablets turned into different shades of terracotta. Fired at 1260ºc some tablets remained stable, whilst others melted and formed a glaze. Some clay, especially in 'Ancient Earth' was left unfired and used as cob/adobe to keep the original colours.
